It was like any other annual turkey hunt for Tom Essig, expect this one would change his life forever. Tom and his close friend were on their annual turkey hunting trip to Nebraska, when they decided to separate for a short time and check out the lumpy, hilly landscape for hiding birds. A turkey appeared between the two and Tom was at the top of a hill and his friend was likely crouched below awaiting for the opportunity.
Tom said he heard the shotgun and then that when he realized he had been hit. Tom had been hit with a 12-gauge, 3-inch magnum buckshot shell. He was rushed to the closest medical center and then transferred to another hospital. Tom is lucky to be alive but not being able to see his family is what hurts the most.
This is why it is so important to know your target and whats behind it and if you are going to be hunting with a partner you should know where they are at all times and keep in contact so you know. Tom is very lucky to be alive and has a long road ahead of him.
